The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has confirmed the loss of accreditation of some courses offered by the institution.
Some of the courses affected include law, dentistry, fine and applied arts, botany, family nutrition and consumer sciences.
The university on Monday said accreditation will “hopefully” be restored by November.
OAU also acknowledged the directive by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) that the 2018/2019 candidates affected should either change their course or pick an alternative university.
Current and prospective OAU students have commented on the ongoing issue.
“This disaccreditation issue is long awaited by me,” says Awosiyan Racheal, a law student.
“Looking at our moot and mock, it’s nothing to reckon with, likewise our resource center does not have a single computer.
Adediwura Gafar lamented that “it’s appalling and degrading that a faculty of 56 years of establishment still battling with NUC requirements”.
Olaboyo Taiwo, a prospective law student, said: “Many of these universities that we are asked to change to by JAMB are done with their post-UTME already.
“Some are in the midst of it. Just a few are yet to start the exam. And those few have started the sales of their post-UTME form which is going to end soon.
The general accreditation exercise was conducted across all universities in December 2017 and the non-accreditation of some programmes reportedly cuts across all universities and is not peculiar to the OAU.
The university management says it is working assiduously to address the issues raised by the NUC.
