The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it has arrested four persons for allegedly operating illegal private security companies in Lagos State.
Mr Tajudeen Balogun, NSCDC Commandant in Lagos, told newsmen on Monday that the suspects were arrested while illegally guarding a property allegedly owned by one Chief Oluwo at Ita-Oluwo area of Ikorodu.
He said that the suspects were arrested on October 25 with dangerous weapons, including gun, while guarding the property.
He said the suspects confessed to being members of Citizen for Peace and First Aid Mission of Nigeria, allegedly owned by a retired army general,  stressing that the security outfit was not registered with the Corps.
“The suspects’ operation is illegal. The name of their claimed company is not registered; that makes them dangerous to society.
“At the time of arrest, a Volkswagen Golf car with registration number UXL-158 HP, two motorcycles, four machetes and one locally made pistol was recovered.
“Other items recovered include 10 mobile phones, four land-line phones, one red candle, one Jackknife, handcuff, one first aid box, four uniforms, 11 different combat boots, nine ID Cards, one generator, among others.
“No private guard company is allowed to operate with weapons (guns and machetes) and without licence.
“The Lagos Command of NSCDC is committed to ridding the state of all criminals elements. We appeal to the public to say something when they see something,” he said.
