Ahead of the 2019 general elections, traditional rulers from the Yewa-Awori zone in Ogun State led by the Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland on Wednesday endorsed the candidacy of the African Democratic Congress governorship candidate, Prince Gboyega Isiaka.
They said Isiaka remained the choice candidate to actualise the aspirations of Ogun West senatorial district in producing the governor for the first time since the creation of the state.
They gave the endorsement at a meeting of the Yewa Traditional Council held in Ilaro, where the ADC governorship candidate was formally presented to the people.
The meeting was presided over by Oba Olugbenle.
It was attended by traditional rulers from the five local government areas in the senatorial district.
Almost all the traditional rulers took turns to bless and pray for the ADC governorship candidate who is contesting the post for the third time.
According to them, Isiaka emerged as the consensus candidate of the senatorial district by divine intervention.
The monarchs said the people of Ogun West were now wiser and are determined to speak with their votes in 2019.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, Oba Olugbenle said the people were ready to entrust their future in the hands of a competent candidate.
He said, “Your journey is one that God has blessed. God has done His own to ensure your acceptability; the people must also do their part. The people of Yewa-Awori will be happy to have their own as the next governor.”
On his own part, Isiaka said he was at the meeting to formally notify the monarchs of his desire to contest the governorship for the third time and to solicit their cooperation and support.
