After a pulsating first half , Gerard Moreno Balagueró put Villareal ahead seven minutes into the second half, before Chukwueze added the second two minutes later.
However, Real Betis reduced the deficit in the 90th minutes through Giovanni Lo Celso to spark a late fightback but Villareal held on to claim all three points.
Villareal is 16th on the La Liga Santander standing with 14 points after 13 games, a point ahead of Kenneth Omeruo’s Leganes who are 17th.
