After years of speculation, Apple, US multinational tech brand, has announced the introduction of Apple TV+, its new TV streaming platform, at a star-studded event in Cupertino, California.
The tech giant further said that it would be launching a credit card, gaming portal and enhanced news app at the 2019 edition of its annual spring event held on March 25, 2019.
At the event, Tim Cook, chief executive officer (CEO) of Apple, said the company would expand its services to compensate for the 2018 drop in the sales of iPhone, its most popular product.
The tech giant also said that its new Apple News+ service would report from more than 300 magazine and newspaper publications, with its subscription bundle costing only $9.99 per month.
In partnership with a slew of game developers, the brand also added a new gaming tab ‘Apple Arcade’ to its App Store and is set to launch over 100 games which would be available across over 150 countries.
While noting that the games will work both online and offline across devices, Apple revealed that its TV app would be getting a makeover, combining cable and streaming subscriptions into a single portal accessible on Apple devices.
It said it would be working with a number of existing streaming services, such as HBO, Starz and Showtime, to add more details to what’s available there, in addition to its own streaming subscription.
Apple also disclosed that a host of Hollywood bigwigs including Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Steven Spielberg, and JJ Abrams are already developing contents for the Apple TV+ service.
