National Geographic celebrates Chimamanda Adichie, Michelle Obama

National Geographic (Nat Geo) would be celebrating Chimamanda Adichie, Nigerian novelist and feminism icon, alongside 399 other influential female folks in its latest magazine issue.
The issue, titled ‘WOMEN: The National Geographic Image Collection’, is written to mark the 100th anniversary of the United States’ constitutional amendment confirming the right of women to vote.
Among other women to be celebrated are Opera Winfrey, American talk show host and media executive; Melinda Gates, philanthropist, and co-founder of Melinda Gates Foundation; and Michelle Obama, former US first lady.
The magazine — themed around personality values including hope; beauty; wisdom; strength; and love — would see Adichie feature alongside other renowned figures in the magazine’s complimentary section entitled ‘Portraits of Power’.
‘Portraits of Power’ would showcase “arresting photographs” from the Nat Geo Archives spanning well over three centuries and across 30 countries and news interviews from women who have inspired leadership.
The Magazine, which is to be released on October 22, 2019, would be the first issue to be written and published by Susan Goldberg, the magazine’s first female editorial director.
Adichie’s inclusion in Nat Geo Magazine’s listicle of 400 influential women wouldn’t be the first of its kind for the literary icon.
On the heels of her waxing career masterstrokes and social influence, Adichie has made the New African’s list of “100 Most Influential Africans”, the New Yorker’s “20 under 40”, and Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People”.
She has also amassed herself prestigious awards through her ‘Purple Hibiscus’; ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’; and ‘The Thing Around Your Neck’, and delivered critically acclaimed talks at the prestigious TED conference
