Troops kill 42 ISWAP terrorists in Lake Chad

Troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force have killed no fewer than 42 Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists in Doron Naira, an island in the Lake Chad region.
The military said on Saturday that the neutralisation of the insurgents was part of the ongoing Operation Yancin Tafki to flush out ISWAP elements from the North-East theatre.
Chief of Military Public Information of the MNJTF, Col Timothy Antigha,  who confirmed this in a statement, said it was the greatest loss suffered by the terrorists in the last six months.
He said, “Unfortunately, the MNJTF lost a soldier while 10 others were wounded in action.”
He said the terrorists also lost equipment as two of their gun trucks and three motorcycles were destroyed, while troops recovered two light machine guns and two AK-47 rifles from them.
Antigha said earlier in the week, ISWAP met a similar fate when they attempted to attack the multinational forces in Sector 1 Foward Operation Base in Ngouma, Cameroon.
He said in the gunfight, ISWAP lost five men, while one was captured.
The spokesman also said 13 AK-47 rifles and two hand grenades were recovered.
Antigha said they also conducted air interdictions in Arege and Malkorony, killing some terrorists as the headquarters and logistics base of a top ISWAP commander, Abu Talib, was targeted in that operation.
