Elder statesman, Chief
Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has called on the government to immediately restructure
Nigeria’s educational system to guarantee quality of education in the country,
arguing that restructuring is even more important than the 2019 general elections.
Delivering a lecture at the
1st Faculty of Education of Nnamdi Azikiwe University public lecture series in
Awka yesterday, Iwuanyanwu regretted that the lip service paid on the issue of
restructuring was one of the impediments towards the growth of standard of
education in the country.
He said: “It is clear that
there is immediate and urgent need to restructure our educational system if it
must fulfill the basic goal and objectives of a good educational system in
modern world.
The involvement of the
private sector in this restructuring exercise will also increase competition,
collaboration and mentoring opportunities that will lead to innovation that can
meet our social and economic needs.
“It is only restructuring
that would enable Nigeria face the challenges of the 21st century. In
restructuring education to meet with the 21st century demand, one will start
looking specifically at higher education.
“Our higher institutions of
learning must integrate attachment scheme to every degree awarding programme
and must encourage programmes that can enable students work while in school, in
line with their respective course of study.”
