Timi Frank: Melaye’s sack is only a distraction

August 25, 2019 0
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has described the sack of Senator Dino Melaye, Senator representing Kogi West, by election tribunal sitting in Kogi State, as a distraction from the senator’s governorship ambition.
Frank in a statement made available to journalists on Friday, while condemning the judgment by the tribunal, expressed optimism that the Court of Appeal would do justice to the case and urged the constituents to be resolute and be rest assured that the outspoken Senator truly won his election and his mandate would never be stolen.
While commending the chairman of the panel for standing by the truth, he alleged that all efforts by the desperate APC to remove the “best performing” Senator from the red chamber would fail woefully at the Appeal Court.
His words: “Lies may succeed for a while but the truth will surely prevail. I urge the vibrant Senator not to lose focus, believe in God of justice and surely bear in mind that all his enemies will be put to shame. I call on the constituents to stand by him and not allow evil to prevail on their worthy representative. Melaye’s governorship ambition should not be threatened by the tribunal judgment, which I can only describe as a distraction,” he added.

Oshiomhole says APC will rule beyond 2023

August 23, 2019 0
The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, says he is confident the party will rule beyond 2023.
He spoke in Abuja during a meeting with governors elected under the platform of the party.
The national chairman urged party members to work together, adding that there is a lot more to be done in order to sustain the “progress made so far”.
“We also want to congratulate you for having being reelected. Sometimes it is easier to be elected the first time. But to be reelected implies a huge vote of confidence by the people of your respective states,” he said.
“And Looking at things from here, I know a lot went into trying to seize the deliberate attempt by the opposition to discredit the good ones.
“Like, we have said during the retreat, we believed our party has made a lot of progress in the three key areas that were reflected in our manifesto.
“But, there is a lot to be done. And I am sure working together at both the executive, state and federal by the special grace of God, we will do better in this second time. As to merit, our party will continue to govern the country post 2023.”
He said his position as the national chairman of the ruling party is challenging.
“It is quite a challenging experience for me. I try to compare myself as a governor and now as chairman of a party, coming in at the eve of primaries and dealing with fall outs of the previous congresses. And then proceeding to conduct elections, “he said.
“Then conduct primaries and campaigns across the 36 states and the FCT. And, working hard to ensure that we secure as many votes we can for our president.
“As, well as support our states particularly where we didn’t have state governors to ensure that we are able to lend a helping hand.
“I am happy to say that at the end of the day even though we lost some states we also gained some states. We gained Kwara, which for us is extremely important. And, we also gained Gombe state which is also very strategic among others.
“Of course, we have a clear majority in the national assembly. We have more senators elected on our platform. We also have more of house representatives elected on our platform.
“As it stands there are many cases in court. And until those cases are resolved, we won’t be able to say for sure where we stand. It is our prayer because we believed that a lot of our cases in court have merit. We hope that there will be justice and they are resolve in our favor.”
John Oyegun, Oshiomhole’s predecessor, had said the ruling party would have issues in the next general election.

He had said the issues will arise because President Muhammadu Buhari, on whom the party had tailored its change agenda, will not be qualified to contest.

APC will take Bayelsa if we’re not united, Jonathan warns PDP

August 07, 2019 0
Ex-President Goodluck Jonathtan has warned that the All Progressives Congress could win the Bayelsa state governorship election if the Peoples Democratic Party is not united.
Speaking on Tuesday at the PDP elders’ advisory council meeting at the Bayelsa government house, Jonathan said the APC lacks what it takes to win the election which is scheduled for November 16.
He said even though the PDP has “all it takes” to retain the state, the party members must join hands to work towards its success at the polls.
“We must free the space and eschew rancour because finally, one person will become the candidate of the party and for that one person to win the election, all aspirants must work for that person,” he said.
“It is only our unity that can give us victory and if we are not united, they (APC) can get away with it. For example, it took the unity of the people of Rivers state, including women who were resolute against soldiers, to get the PDP victory in the state. If that had not happened, they (opposition) would have taken it.”
He said all the 21 governorship aspirants in the party are relevant and enjoined the party members to ensure the flag-bearer emerges without any rancour.
“For us to secure this state for PDP, we need maximum unity and we must not create any form of division or discrimination,” he added.

“At the end of the day, one person will emerge and all of us will work for whoever emerges as the candidate of the party.”

Oshiomhole says Nigerians appreciate APC better under him

July 29, 2019 0
The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshimhole, says Nigerians appreciate the ruling party better under him.
Speaking with state house correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Oshiomhole said the party has recorded numerous achievements under him.
He said this is evident with the leadership of the national assembly where the party’s consensus candidates won.
“You talk about rumors, what about what you see. I am very proud to say that under my chairmanship, our party has made tremendous progress. I am not at the mercy of fake or even disgruntled analysts,” he said.
“I write my own testimonials by myself in terms of what l do, how I do it and what the unbiased people say. Irrespective of all the speculations, for example, it was said that 17 governors were going to remove Oshiomhole, what happened? At the end, we provided leadership and had more votes. In the 2015 election, the difference between our candidate and President Jonathan then, was slightly less than three million, but this time around, we had slightly less than four million. I am a national chairman, not a zonal or state chairman.
“So, my responsibilities include to get the APC at the national level going, including relating with the president, the ways we expect the state chapter chairmen to relate with their governors and the local council chapter chairmen with their local government council chairmen. That is the way it works and I believe that Nigerians under my leadership appreciated APC better under my chairmanship, as evidenced by the fact that we had more senators and house of representatives members this year, than before.
“For the first time since 1999, the letter of APC under my signature was read on the floors of both chambers of the national assembly, announcing the principal officers of the party, as determined through consensus by the leadership of the party, which is why unlike 2015 where APC as a party had no say whatsoever as to who emerged as the senate president, speaker of the house of representatives and principal officers of both chambers. This time around, we got six out of six. Can I do better than that, can I score more than 100 percent? You talk about turmoil, if this is how to be in turmoil, I want to live there.”
The APC chairman maintained that inauguration of house of assemblies in Bauchi and Edo states is against the constitution.
He said: “Here, l spoke to you that what happened in Edo and in Bauchi are unacceptable. It is not about me. But as a Nigerian who believes in democracy, for nine persons in Bauchi to purport to inaugurate a house of 31 members is wrong.
“Go and read relevant sections of the constitution, it states clearly that a House cannot be less than 24 and not more than 40 members, 11 people in Bauchi where you have 31 members. It is not about me, not about you. I ask, can you form a quorum of something that does not exist? All my life, l have run associations, I could say, for instance, when I was leader of the NLC, we had a quorum of National Executive Council of the NLC, now when that quorum had not been formed, I could not say we had formed a quorum. So, you cannot form a quorum of the House of Assembly, when it has not been inaugurated. It is about the system. If I condemned Bauchi and I do so in the strongest terms, I cannot condemn less, what happened in Edo state. It just shows that truth has no political affiliation. God must give me the courage to condemn what happened in Edo.

“In the security meeting we have had with some of the senators, governors and law makers, it was agreed that when it comes to proclamations, you do not only write a proclamation letter, but you ensure that it is communicated to all those concerned and you give them ample time so that wherever they are, they can come in.”

You must reconcile party members ahead of 2023 - APC governors’ forum DG to Oshiomhole

July 28, 2019 0
The director-general of Progressive Governors’ Forum, Salihu Lukman, says Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), must use his “negotiating skills” to reconcile aggrieved party members ahead of the 2023 general election.
Lukman said this on Friday when he presented: “Power of Possibility and Politics of Change in Nigeria”, a book he authored.
Lukman said the national working committee (NWC) of the party led by Oshiomhole had the responsibility of uniting the party.
According to him, the future of Nigeria depends on the capacity of leaders to reconcile themselves.
“Our leaders need to commit themselves just like when they were confronted with the merger, commit themselves to make sacrifices because what the merger did was to make our leaders sacrifice positions, sacrifice whatever they had for the bigger thing that is now called the APC,” he said.
“The future of this country depends on the ability of leaders to reconcile themselves and if APC can achieve that, it would have made another feat.
“Fortunately, we are blessed with one of the best negotiators in this country as our national chairman, he must bring that his negotiating skill to bear
“On our part as stakeholders of the party, we will work to engage our leaders to embrace reconciliation and recommendations bordering on that.

“We can only be a better country if our democracy is producing results that our people are happy with.”

PDP, APC are interested in AAC’s downfall - Sowore

July 28, 2019 0
Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are interested in the downfall of his party.
He said this at the national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja on Saturday.
Sowore charged members of his party to embark on mobilsation at the grassroots level.
“We need to take this movement back to the grassroots. We are known to be a party of justice, progress and growth,” he said.
“What will keep us relevant is our relevance to the people at every level. Our style of campaign is challenging to the status quo. We are the best to take this country to where it ought to be. PDP and APC are interested in the downfall of our party. We’re their common enemy.”
Inibehe Effiong, national legal adviser of the party, speaking at the meeting
Sowore taunted President Muhammadu Buhari over his ministerial nominees, saying Nigerians are regretting after realising that the “Next Level has become next suffering”.
The NEC passed a vote of confidence on Sowore, saying the faction of the party which suspended him is working for “external forces”.
“NEC hereby passes a vote of confidence on Omoyele Sowore and Malcolm Fabiyi as they continue to lead the party,” said Joshua Adeoye, deputy national secretary of the party, who read the resolutions at the meeting.
“All allegations against Omoyele Sowore were/are manufactured. There is no case of financial impropriety against Mr. Omoyele Sowore. His is the only campaign that declared money as it was raised, carried people along as it was spent, and within 6 weeks of the end of the campaign.
Party members at the NEC meeting
“The NEC out rightly rejects, cancels, reverses and totally repudiates the ‘suspension’ (or purported suspension) of Omoyele Sowore and Malcolm Fabiyi from their offices.
“The NEC hereby affirms and reinstates Mr. Omoyele Sowore as the one and only National Chairman of the AAC, and Dr. Malcolm Fabiyi as the Deputy National Chairman of the AAC (headquarters).
“All actions carried out by Leonard Nzenwa in the name of the African Action Congress (AAC), including documents signed or authored by him, are hereby dismissed, set-aside and completely nullified forthwith.”

Oyegun asks Oshiomole to stop disgracing APC

July 22, 2019 0
A former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun has asked Adams Oshiomhole, his successor, to desist from interfering in the administration of Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state.
Odigie-Oyegun gave the advice in a statement signed by Ray Murphy, his public affairs adviser, on Sunday.
He appealed to Oshiomhole to stop disgracing the ruling party, saying Obaseki should be given a breathing space to concentrate on governing the state.
He recalled that he never interfered with Oshiomhole’ administration when he was governor and wondered why it has become difficult for him to realise that Obaseki is the only APC governor in the whole of the south-south.
“I appeal to him (Oshiomhole) to stop disgracing the governing party APC and Edo state,” he said.
“He should give the governor a breathing space to concentrate in doing the job of serving the people of Edo.
“I wonder how he could easily forget that I never interfered or bothered about how he ran the government as the then governor of Edo, all the while I occupied the position of the party’s national chairman.
“I am yet to come to terms with why it has become difficult for Oshiomhole to realise that Obaseki is the only APC governor in the entire south-south.
“And he should be allowed to concentrate on giving the people of Edo the dividends of democracy. ”

He urged APC governors not to stand aside and watch their fellow colleague “hampered by a party chairman whose actions might lead to political misfortune of the party”.

APC national vice chairman expelled over ‘anti-party activities

July 19, 2019 0
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled Inuwa Abdulkadir, its national vice-chairman in the north-west, over alleged anti-party activities.
In a statement signed by Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC spokesman, the ruling party said Abdulkadir failed to utilise the opportunity to defend himself before the disciplinary committee set up by the national working committee to look into the various petitions received against certain members of the party.
The Sokoto chapter of the party had earlier expelled Abdulkadir.
“The NWC of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has upheld the disciplinary actions of Magajin Gari “A” Ward, Sokoto North Local Government, and the Party’s Sokoto State Executive Committee on the Party’s National Vice Chairman (North West), Malam Inuwa Abdulkadir over anti-party activities,” the statement read.
“The party organs in Sokoto State have earlier expelled Abdulkadir and passed on their recommendation to the NWC for ratification.
“The decision to uphold the action of the Sokoto APC organs was taken at a meeting of the NWC held at the party’s national secretariat on Thursday.
“Following the suspension of Abdulkadir, the NWC will subsequently forward the decision of the Sokoto State organs to the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for further actions.”

Kogi governorship: Buhari must call Yahaya Bello to order – Party chairman

July 15, 2019 0
Ahead of the Kogi State governorship election, the state chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Mutar Atimah has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call Governor Yahaya Bello to order over the conduct of his supporters.
Atimah told party faithful on Monday at the official inauguration of the party secretariat in Lokoja that the call become necessary in view of incessant attacks on members of the SDP in the state in recent times.
He said that the Kogi Governor should as a matter of urgency call his followers to order to avoid the consequence that might follow if the attacks continue.
“Let it be clear to the governor that no one has the monopoly of violence. No one should blame SDP when it decides to defend itself,” he warned.
According to the chairman, no amount of intimidation will be enough to stop SDP from taking over from Bello as the people of Kogi have had enough of his maladministration.
Atimah called on the Governor to concentrate on making life comfortable to the people through prompt payment of salaries and providing adequate security that will enhance the standard of living of the people.
He said that SDP has come to stay and is ready to take over Lugard House in the November 16th governorship election.
In a swift reaction however, Kingsley Fanwo, who is the Director-General, Media and Publicity to the Kogi State Governor, assured that “Kogi is safe for all. We do not support attacking anyone and most of the accusers are making false claims to win sympathy. Kogi is safer than it was 5 years ago”.

Lagos AAC rejects order removing Sowore as party chairman

July 15, 2019 0
The Lagos state branch of the African Action Congress (AAC) has rejected a court order removing Omoyele Sowore as the party chairman.
In May, a faction of AAC said it had suspended Sowore, presidential candidate of the party in the 2019 elections.
He was said to have been suspended from the party over “failure to convene national executive council (NEC) meeting, financial misappropriation and other anti-party activities,” and Leonard Nzenwa was appointed the acting chairman.
On Friday, the federal high court sitting in Abuja held that Sowore should stop parading himself as the party chairman.
Joshua Adeoye, counsel to Sowore, had argued that his client traveled outside the country before the matter with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/512/2019 was filed and therefore was unable to depose to the counter-affidavits.
Inyang Ekwo, the judge presiding over the matter, however, dismissed the argument.
But reacting to this development at a press conference in Lagos on Monday, Kunle Ajayi, acting chairman of AAC Lagos, described the judgment as “cut and sew” that should not be allowed to stand.
“This judgment is copiously biased, neither on logic or merit but on some technical jargons that are unfounded,” he said.
Agba Jalingo, the AAC chairman in Cross Rivers state, also said their chapter stands in solidarity with Sowore.
“Please, go and tell Leonard that none of them should come near Cross River State, we do not know Leonard, the person we elected is Omoyele Sowore. We cannot follow a leader we do not know,” he said.
Ahmed Buhari and Adesina Afolabi, party chairmen in Kwara and Ogun also rejected Nzenwa as their leader.
Sam Ajeigbe, the AAC national treasurer, also followed suit, saying Sowore did not spend money belonging to the party.

“In fact, he moved money from his personal campaign account to use for the party,” he said.

Obaseki dares ‘Abuja politicians’ to take over Edo

July 11, 2019 0
The Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has dared those he described as “Abuja politicians” to take over the state if they can.
Speaking on Thursday at a rally held to show solidarity for his administration, Obaseki said those who are intent on splitting the state house of assembly cannot stop him.
A disagreement between him and Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had split the assembly into two.
On June 17, nine lawmakers loyal to the governor took 15 loyalists of Oshiomhole unaware by organizing a secret inauguration.
Before then, Oshiomhole was accused of plotting to install his loyalists as principal officials of the assembly after which Obaseki, whom he influenced his emergence, would be removed.
Addressing his supporters on Thursday, the governor said some “Abuja politicians” are already heating up the polity in the state and trying to pull him out”.
“You know what is happening. I want to assure you that what has been happening in Edo state for the past several months will not distract us. We will continue to be focused,” he said.
“I did not change cars; I did not buy an official car for myself until after 18 months because we did not have the money and the little money I had, I felt should be used for the people and not the governor.
“We are tired of our children being short-changed. After 20 years of democracy, we cannot continue to behave as if we do not have democracy.
“We have not started politics, they want to pull us out early. INEC has not announced time-table for Edo election, they have only come out with the timetable for Kogi and Bayelsa and even in those states, they (politicians) have not started heating up the polity as much as they are doing in Edo.
“I want to leave you with these words that those people who are parading themselves, who are speaking on the internet for themselves and their pocket, we are watching you. For those people who have gone outside, Abuja politicians, to tell people from outside to come and invade Edo, split our house of assembly, we are waiting for you.
“We have no fear at all, we are resolved that we will continue to do what is best for our state and country. We have no doubt that we are on the right path; we know that God is with us, we know that people are with us. So, if all these people are with us, who can stop us? Anybody that can stop us should come, we dare you.

“So, those Abuja politicians whom we refuse to send back and for those who got there by mistake, they can’t disrupt the peace of Edo. We will not let them. Nobody can stop the progress in Edo state.”

Tinubu denies group rallying for his ‘2023 presidential bid’

July 10, 2019 0
A national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says he does not have any affiliations with a group sharing materials branded for his alleged 2023 presidential campaign.
In a statement issued by Tunde Rahman, his spokesman, Tinubu denied any knowledge of the group, named “Asiwaju Reloaded Ambassadors”, which branded shirts, caps, and leaflets bearing his name.
The former Lagos governor also described as “faceless” the group sharing “unsolicited and unwarranted” promotional with his names.
“We have seen pictures of face caps, T-shirts, shirts and even leaflets with Bola Tinubu 2023 embossed on them purportedly by a faceless group which christened itself ‘Asiwaju Reloaded Ambassadors’ Nigeria’. Neither the group nor its souvenirs are known to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” the statement read.
“We hereby, through this medium, categorically deny any knowledge of the group and dissociate Asiwaju Tinubu from the group’s unsolicited and unwarranted materials.”
Tanko Yakasai, elder statesman and political adviser in the second Republic, had said the APC might field Tinubu or Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as its presidential candidate in 2023.
Adeseye Ogunlewe, former minister of works, had also said that Tinubu is the ideal person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
In April, the former governor had earlier denounced reports that he was planning to strengthen his presidential ambition by planting his allies in key positions at the national assembly.

Ojodu: El-Rufai may be humoring south-west for political advantage

July 09, 2019 0
A former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, Babafemi Ojodu, says Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, may be “humoring the south-west for political advantage.”
El-Rufai had portrayed Nigeria as “two countries: developing south and a backward, less educated and unhealthy north, with the world’s highest number of poor people.”
But in an article entitled “El-Rufai is Wrong”, Ojodu said the south-west is living on past glory.
The ex-aide to the president also said the country, as a whole, is underdeveloped.
“It is a fallacy to say that the south is developing. Every part of Nigeria is at best yearning for development. At worst we have a profound reality, an uneven pace of development across states around which Nigeria has been divided since 1967,” he said.
“El Rufai assertions may be true some twenty to thirty years ago, with the advantages the South secured in pre-independence governance. I can write a book to put a lie to that assertion now based on the facts known to me.
“I have traveled around this country North and South. I have seen things for myself. Southerners, let no one deceive you that you are developing. You’re living on past glory.
“El-Rufai knows the truth. He is too clever not to. I think he may be saying what he said to ginger his brother governors to do more for their people or at best humoring our people for political advantage.”

Ojodu said there must be a clamour for good governance “across the board.”

Bayelsa’ll never elect a godless governor - Dickson

July 07, 2019 0
Governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, says the people of the state will never elect a godless person as their next governor.
Dickson spoke at the conclusion of a three-day prayer and fasting programme organised by the state ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
The event held at the Ecumenical Centre, Yenagoa, the state capital.
In a statement by Fidelis Soriwei, his special adviser on media relations, Dickson said the governorship position is for people who appreciate the place of God in human affairs and not for “those who are poised to grab it by violence”.
According to the statement, the governor said the state would no longer be governed by “cult elements, crude and brutal human beings, whose aim is bloodletting, killings, and violence”.
The governor called on Bayelsa residents to resist cultists who could use the temptation of political offices to lure them into dangerous occult practices.
“Only a man after God’s heart, not a man who is not destined by God, who wants to take it by violence, no such person shall ascend the position of governor,” he said.
“Not one who does not subscribe, understand, submit to the authority and divine mandate of God over our lives shall ascend the seat of governor.”
Dickson had earlier said he is the only one capable of leading the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to “battle” in the forthcoming election.
“I led a party to victory against a vicious opposition. I alone can lead PDP to battle, I have done it repeatedly. You saw the election, there will be no form of manipulation,” he had said.
“People talking about manipulation are anticipating that they should be imposed. I’m not going to impose any of them. Any of them who feel they have experience and capacity should go and make their case to the people of Bayelsa state.
“I hope that the right person with competence, capacity emerges to build in the foundation which I and my team have laid over the last seven years. I have no doubt that the right person will emerge with my support.”

Adeleke has gone through a lot, says PDP rep

July 06, 2019 0
A member of the house of representatives, Oluwole Oke, says Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun governorship election, has gone through a lot.
Oke, who represents Oriade/Obokun federal constituency in Osun state, spoke after the supreme court delivered a judgment in favor of Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He thanked Deji Adeleke, the elder brother of Ademola “for his moral, financial and spiritual support since his younger brother joined politics.
After the death of Isiaka Adeleke, Ademola joined the senatorial race and was eventually elected.
Oluwole praised the PDP governorship candidate for his sacrifices.
He told members of the party to return to the drawing board to plan ahead of the next gubernatorial election in the state.
“The lessons here is for us to go back to the drawing board think through our laws, constitution and the electoral act to avoid a situation where both the electoral body or the courts will usurp the duty or functions of lawmakers,” he said.
“My thanks and appreciation to our party leaders particularly our chairman for his doggedness and hard work and our teeming party members and supporters for their belief in us.”
Oke commended the efforts of Ademola Adeleke, the party’s candidate and congratulated Oyetola on his victory at the court.
“He (Oyetola) should see every citizen of Osun as his and I urge every citizen to support him to succeed while remaining vigilant as well,” he said.
“I, therefore, wish to urge our members to remain vigilant and watchful and ensure delivery of Democratic dividends to our people.”
The supreme court had upheld the election of Oyetola in the September governorship election.
Adeleke has also accepted the ruling of the court.

PDP summons Elumelu over leadership crisis at house of reps

July 04, 2019 0
The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned Ndidi Elumelu and six other members of the house of representatives over the minority leadership tussle in the lower legislative chamber of the national assembly.
Other members summoned are Wole Oke, Lynda Ikpeazu, Anayo Edwin, Gideon Gwadi, Toby Okechukwu, and Adekoya Abdul-Majid.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP spokesman, said the decision to summon the six lawmakers was taken by the NWC at its 473 meeting held on Thursday.
Ologbondiyan said the lawmakers were to come on Friday for a crucial meeting at the party’s national secretariat, in Abuja.
“The summon is in line with the provisions of Chapter 10 (57) (3) of the Constitution of the PDP. The members are to appear before the members of the National Working Committee at 10am,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the PDP board of trustees (BoT) has said it would work with the party’s NWC to resolve the minority leadership crisis in the house of representatives.
