I was born out of rape - Helen Paul

April 07, 2019 0
In a post to dedicate her recent doctorate degree to her mother, Helen Paul, a popular comedienne, says she was born out of rape.
Paul, who bagged a doctorate degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos on Thursday, wrote a note to her mother on her Instagram page.
“I HELEN PAUL dedicate this to my mum, you gave birth to me out of rape, they told you I wouldn’t amount to anything,” she wrote on Friday.
“I grew up hearing from family members; being called a “Bastard” and each time I asked you, you said ‘Olorun lon wo omo were, Olorun ma wo e‘ meaning God watches over the child of a mad person, he’d watch over you).
“Mummy I want you to know I love you, I might not buy you Benz now because I don’t have a `Pant’ yet but this certificate will amount to something great.
“They say Fame is nothing but Grace is everything and I pray for grace in everything I do.
“I’m not a Cele member but Late Oshofa gave me the name and everything Late Oshofa said about Helen Paul is coming to pass.
“I dedicate this to every mother, may God make you strong enough to survive and enjoy the fruit of your labour.”
Paul, who is the first stand-up comedian to have a PhD, has worked as both a freelance and full-time presenter at several media houses in Nigeria; she presently hosts ‘Jara’ on Africa Magic.

Taraji Henson speaks on battle with depression

April 03, 2019 0
Taraji P. Henson, popular US actress, who starred in ‘Acrimony’, a 2018 psychological thriller, says she suffers from anxiety and depression which is “kicking up everyday”.
Listed among the ‘Power of Women’ nominees, the 48-year-old movie star said this in an interview with Variety Magazine while sharing how she’s helping with tackling mental health stigmas in black communities.
“I suffer from depression. My anxiety is kicking up, even more, every day, and I’ve never really dealt with anxiety like that. It’s something new,” she said.
Speaking on how she tackles her depression problems, Henson hinted she steers clear off social media to avoid having to compare herself with people living “false lives” and “filtering pictures”.
“Even if life is good for you, you can still get on there and become depressed because people are filtering pictures and living these false lives, and it makes you second guess yourself,” she said.
“I have a therapist that I speak to. That’s the only way I can get through it. You need a professional who can give you exercises, someone who studies the human mind and has no stakes involved.
“Their job is to make sure you’re mentally sound and tell you the truth, which might hurt. I remember the first time I went, I was angry because I was like, ‘She didn’t tell me nothing!’ You’re not going to figure it out in one sitting.”
Henson played the role ‘Melinda Gayle’ in the 2018 movie ‘Acrimony’, which portrayed her as a deranged; depressed; and disgruntled woman who became obsessed with her ex’s new relationship that she swore to destroy them both.
The Oscar-nominated star of ‘Empire’ is now being celebrated for her work on the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, which she founded in 2018 in her late father’s memory.

Burna Boy apologizes for kicking Zambian fan who tried to ‘rob’ him

April 02, 2019 0
Nigerian Afro-fusion star, Burna Boy, has apologized for kicking a fan who, according to him, tried to rob him while performing on stage in Zambia.
A video surfaced on social media showing the moment when the ‘Dangote’ singer kicked a fan during his concert in Zambia.
In the video, Burna Boy can be seen performing very close to the edge of the stage as fans reach out to touch him.
Things, however, took a shocking dimension when he kicked one of the concert-goers.
“Regardless of what was going on here, nothing justifies Burna boy’s irrational kicking of a fan. He could have handled it better,” a Twitter user wrote.

Reacting to the reactions that trailed the incident, Burna Boy apologized and said that the concert-goer in question was no fan but only a random person who severally attempted robbing him while he was on stage.
“I’m sorry about how it looks but this person continuously tried to rob me on stage. It was like the 10th attempt to do it after telling him several times to stop,” he said.
“This wasn’t a fan. Apologies for how it looks but it’s not the case at all. I appreciate all my fans.”

Cardi B reveals why she robbed men after drugging them

March 28, 2019 0
Red-hot rap queen Cardi B is working to quash controversy over resurfaced footage in which she admits to drugging and robbing men, pointing to “limited options” in her days as a stripper.
Social media backlash has swirled in recent days over the three-year-old clip taken from an Instagram live session, with the unfiltered rapper saying she “drugged (men) up, and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do.”
Responding to the criticism over the video, the now 26-year-old went on the offensive on Instagram, saying she had discussed “things I had to do in my past right or wrong that I felt I needed to do to make a living.”
“I was blessed to have been able to rise from that, but so many women have not.”
The expletive-laden video appears to be a response to allegations that she hadn’t earned her success, with Cardi saying in it: “Nothing was… handed to me.”
But the clip triggered the hashtag #SurvivingCardiB, a reference to the bombshell docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” that refocused attention on sex abuse accusations against Kelly.
Many Twitter users alleged a double standard, saying Cardi B’s actions were comparable to those of male performers accused of sexual assault.
“The men I spoke about in my life were men that I dated, that I was involved with. Men that were conscious, willing and aware,” she posted on Instagram late Tuesday.
The outspoken superstar — who last month became the first woman solo artist to win a Best Rap Album Grammy — said she is part “of a hip hop culture where you can talk about where you come from, talk about the wrong things you had to do to get where you are.”
“There are rappers that glorify murder, violence, drugs and robbing,” Cardi said. “I never glorified the things I brought up in that live (interview). I never even put those things in my music because I’m not proud of it and feel a responsibility not to glorify it.
“All I can do now is be a better me for myself, my family, and my future.”
Born Belcalis Almanzar to a Dominican father and a Trinidadian mother, the Bronx native’s uncharted rise to fame kicked off during her days as a stripper, when she carved out a social media personality on platforms, including Instagram.
She is married to fellow rapper, Offset, with whom she has a daughter, Kulture.

Cardi B admits drugging, robbing men as a stripper

March 27, 2019 2
Cardi B, popular US rapper, has admitted that she used to drug and rob men when she worked as a stripper, saying that “whether or not they were poor choices at the time I did what I had to do to survive.”
Few days ago, an old video resurfaced on social media platforms of the ‘Bodak Yellow’ rapper ranting about how she used to trick men into coming back to hotels with her and then she would drug and steal from them.
The 3-year-old video, recorded from an Instagram live broadcast and posted online, also showed a visibly upset Cardi in tears as she answered a fan who said she doesn’t deserve her success “because [she didn’t] put it in no f**king work.”
Barely hours after the live video resurfaced, the rapper took to social media to elaborate on her comments and then express regret for claims she made in the video before her music career began.
“So I’m seeing on social media that a live I did 3 years ago has popped back up. A live where I talked about things I had to do in my past right or wrong that I felt I needed to go to make a living. I never claim to be perfect or come from a perfect world wit a perfect past I always speak my truth I always own my s***,” she wrote.
“Im apart of a hip hop culture where you can talk about where you come from talk about the wrong things you had to do to get where you are. There are rappers that glorify murder violence drugs an robbing. Crimes they feel they had to do to survive.

“I never glorified the things I brought up in my music because I’m not proud of it and feel a responsibility not to glorify it. I made the choices that I did at the time because I had very limited options. I was blessed to have been able to rise from that but so many women have not. Whether or not they were poor choices at the time I did what I had to do to survive. The men I spoke about in my live were men that I dated that I was involve with men that were conscious willing and aware. I have a past that i can’t change we all do.”

Why church of Satan, 'god' are against me - Daddy Freeze

March 22, 2019 0
Popular on-air personality, Daddy Freeze, has revealed one reason the church of satan and the church of ‘god’ agreed against him.
Recall that few days back, the church of satan rejected Freeze’s opinion where he stated that marriage vows are satanic.
The US-based church of satan had said that the fact that Freeze said marital vows were satanic was a clear indication that he wanted to get out of his marriage.
In his response to the church on Friday, Daddy Freeze placed the church of satan side by side the church of ‘god’.
Freeze backed up his claim with quotes from the Bible which he said acted as a forte for him.
He wrote, “When the church of ‘god’ and the church of Satan agree against Daddy Freeze on issues one bible verse comes to mind!
“Corinthians 4:4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”
