Receiving his third award on the stage of Headies 2018, Davido all but said the secret of his success is “lifting others”.
Although he didn't literally utter it, the 'FIA' croner implied this by saying “lifting others na wetin I dey use”.
The ‘Assurance’ singer urged fellow artistes and celebrities to assist people in need during his speech for the artiste of the year award.
Partly in pidgin English, Davido said: “I wanna thank God first of all for all the blessing he has given me this year, Two years ago, last year I didn’t think I will be here.
“I want to say this; there is something I use every time I wake up. We rise by lifting others. Everybody wey dey on this stage no be some random people. I have helped them. Na wetin I dey use be that.
“All the artistes there, una get money, Anything wey una fit do for people, do am. E no go cost you anything to help others in need.”
The singer dedicated the award to his daughters, Imade and Hailey, as well as his girlfriend, Chioma Avril Rowland.
Davido closed out the awards ceremony with a performance of some of his hit songs, such as ‘Ada’, Mayorkun’s ‘Bobo, DMW’s ‘MIND’, among others.
Like Wizkid and Simi, Davido was a big winner, taking home artiste of the year, song of the year and best pop single.
