Nigerian champions Lobi Stars have moved to upgrade the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi to meet CAF’s requirements for the stadium to be approved for their 2019 Champions League home fixtures.
Vice-chairman of the club, Mike Idoko, who led other members of the Lobi board on an inspection tour of the stadium on Wednesday, said they decided to inspect the facility ahead of CAF/ NFF’s inspection team’s visit in October.
He said the team would represent the state and the country well at the continental competition, stressing that they have what it takes to win the title.
Idoko said the floodlights, seats, scoreboard and dressing rooms needed attention.
He said, “From the inspection we have done so far, we have to go back and fix those things. This is not the first CAF competition that has been played here.
“In 2000 Lobi played continental matches here. But we have to look at the floodlights, scoreboard, seats and the dressing rooms.
“I’m confident the facilities will be put in place before the inspection team arrives next month. The governor has assured us of adequate funding.”
Idoko appealed to the NFF to support the team as they aim to win the elite continental title.
