Poised to re-write its own thirty-five-year-old history, the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos, has completed all the scrutiny necessary to release a cream of 57 egg-head graduates with First Class honors degrees in various academic disciplines at its forthcoming 23rd Convocation.
Speaking at a press briefing as part of the activities to mark the convocation to be held on Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16 at the University Auditorium, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, LASU’s Vice-Chancellor, said never in the history of LASU had the institution produced such a large number of first-class students.
“The university, during the convocation activities will be graduating a total of 14,369 students comprising Diploma, First and Higher Degrees Graduands. This year’s convocation is a very unique and special one.
“It is so because our world-class students in their habit of healthy rivalry to be the best at what they do, have pushed themselves so hard that at this year’s convocation we will be graduating 57 first class students.
“Never in the history of Lagos State University have we had it so good,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
Besides the briefing, Fagbohun said the ceremonies would commence on Friday, May 10 and run till Thursday, May 16.

He also said that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President, would deliver the convocation lecture entitled, “Africa Centres of Excellence In African Universities: A Veritable Catalyst For Nation Building and Development” on Thursday, May 16.
However, recounting the school’s achievements in the last one year, he said 37 academic programmes had been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), inauguration of the Centre for Afro-Brazilian Studies at the Faculty of Arts and continued engagement in ‘Ready Set Work’ in collaboration with the state government to enhance graduates employability among other achievements.
