Nigerian folk singer, Johnny Drille, has released a new single dubbed ‘Papa’, where he shares valuable lessons his father taught him.
‘Papa’, a lyrically emotional ode to fatherhood, was released on Friday, barely two days to Father’s Day.
The song, produced by the talented songwriter and shot by Clarence Peters, renowned filmmaker, depicts differing fatherly bondings with their wards and sees the singer narrating how his father’s cautionary gestures have helped him navigate life’s tough trajectories.
Considering that edge of consistency and poignancy that has marked Drille’s previous releases, it comes as no surprise that ‘Papa’ has had Nigerians airing their gratitude to the singer just hours after the song was dropped.

Drille, whose real name is John Ighodaro, began his musical career in the church and was one of the contestants in the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa in 2013.
In 2015, he released a cover of Di’Ja’s, which caught the attention of Mavin’s CEO Don Jazzy. His debut single ‘Wait for Me’ was released in 2015 and was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2016.
He got signed onto Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records in February 2017 and has teamed up with the likes of Niniola and Simi. Other talented Nigerian music stars are already registering their interest in collaborating with the singer.
